Quick: You’re building a brand new house. What color would you choose for your roof? That is the decision I have been facing for the last month. It is harder than you might think.
I decided a while back that I wanted to put a metal roof on my house. When looking at all the options, it just seemed like the best way to go. Once it is on, I won’t have to do anything to it for many, many years. It will last a lot longer than shingles.
So, back to my color. I was purchasing the roofing from the Community Market in Unity, the local Amish store. We went in Saturday and I had in mind that I wanted to go with brown. We asked to see the actual sheets of metal. After some debate, I decided to go with bronze. The color is actually a lot better than it sounds.
The brown was just very bright. The bronze was just a bit more of a subtle color. There was actually a barn next door with the bronze on it and I really like it. It will allow me to either go with a shade of brown or green for the house.
I was so amazed. They asked when we wanted the roofing. They said that it might be a little tight to get it on Monday, but that they could easily do Tuesday. I had no idea that I could get it that quickly. It was wonderful news as every day is getting closer to snow flying.
As much as it truly breaks my heart, I will not be in the house this year. Our goal at this point is to get it all boarded in so that the elements can’t hurt it this winter. We have decided not to put in my big, beautiful front windows for the house to sit all winter. We are just going to board it over. After working so hard all summer, it is kind of disappointing but I am really at a standstill until I can sell my home in Old Town. I am just trying to remain patient.
